In a review of a book this week, Sandee Brawarsky, the reviewer,
stated:
"For readers interested in exploring additional
psalms and their meaning, several new titles will be of interest.
Rabbi Paul Plotkin''s The Lord Is My Shepherd: Why Do I Still
Want? (Sunbelt Eakin) is a kind of spiritual self-help book,
using the psalms as sources of hope and solace.
The book was born out of a personal crisis,
after which the rabbi turned to the psalms, at first in his
daily prayers, and found that he could draw much strength,
comfort and wisdom from the familiar lines. He includes engaging
stories from his work as a rabbi, of how he has used the psalms
in helping others to find inspiration and healing. The book
is set up thematically, rather than psalm by psalm, covering
such topics as aging, loneliness, suffering, appreciation,
prayer, parenting, slander and more.
Rabbi Plotkin is the senior rabbi of Temple
Beth Am in Margate, Fla., and is a member of the Rabbinical
Assembly''s Committee on Jewish Law and Standards."
